Switchstance Recordings is thrilled to unveil a remarkable musical collaboration that transcends borders and genres. "Akwaki," the brainchild of German production duo Ancient Astronauts, Ugandan maestro Otim Alpha, and the soulful vocals of Brazen Rule, marries the haunting melodies of the Adungu, a traditional indigenous instrument from Uganda, with a contemporary sonic landscape.

This extraordinary collaboration emerged during a fateful encounter when Dogu of Ancient Astronauts visited Uganda for a music festival in Gulu. Reuniting with Otim Alpha, whom he had met at the WOMEX music conference in Finland, the two kindred spirits quickly formed a friendship that would lead to musical magic.

When the Gulu festival took an unexpected turn for the worse, it was Otim Alpha who extended an invitation to Dogu, offering refuge and friendship. During his stay in Gulu, Dogu celebrated his birthday at Otim's bar, a testament to the genuine bond they had formed. Otim Alpha, an exceptional Adungu player known for his groundbreaking work on the Nyege Nyege label, and Dogu ventured into the studio during Dogu's stay to record the mesmerizing Adungu melodies that now grace "Akwaki."

To complete this sonic masterpiece, long-time friend and collaborator Brazen Rule lent his captivating vocals to the track. The result is "Akwaki," a harmonious blend of traditional indigenous instruments from East Africa seamlessly interwoven with a contemporary riddim and killer vocals. This track showcases the boundless potential when culture and innovation converge.
